compare with ground farming in water utilization, roof farm has difference as following
1 the soil layer of roof farm is thinner which is difficult to maintain soil moisture.
2 the evaporation of water in roof farm soil layer will be faster due to the stronger wind.
3 therefore, to maintain soil moisture in roof farm, it will be harder for artificial irrigation
4 water supply inconvenience for high-rise building

1、sprinkling irrigation
advantages

disadvantages
merely appropriate for lawn and low-growing plant. tall growing plant will prevent irrigation water. the thickness of soil layer should be more than 25mm.
2、micro spray irrigation

spraying area is smaller which is suitable for the complex terrain of the roof greening.
it required shallower matrix (less than 20mm)
sprayer is easily aging and blows down by wind or human activity.
3、trickle irrigation
advantages
small flow, maximum saving water of irrigation system
water supply inconvenience
no disturbance by wind
appropriate for vegetation, shrubs and trees
disadvantages
the water should be high quality. if water contains suspended material, it will block drip irrigation emitter.
selecting the appropriate irrigation system and setting up automatic control which can make irrigation more efficient and convenient.
through the setting of automatic controller, it precisely controlled timing and quantity of irrigation to meet the irrigation requirements of roof and save manpower.
in addition, the controller can automatically operate irrigation by program during the day and night.
the automatic control system is divided into ac-control system and dc-control system according by power supply mode.
ac control system needs to be connected with the power supply.
the general controller centralized control multiple solenoid valves. between the controller and solenoid valve need to connected by line.
direct current control system does not need to be connected to ac power supply. battery and solar power supply for irrigation valve.
with the development of network technology, tickle irrigation will be more intelligent.
